“Kouhaku Uta Gassen” drew highest-rating while Susan Boyle sang

The “Kouhaku Uta Gassen” annual New Year’s Eve TV music extravaganza in Japan drew highest-rating (40.8% of viewers) during the section featuring Susan Boyle.(Video Research:The Kanto region).
Susan Boyle (born 1 April 1961) is the breakout star of TV programme “Britain’s Got Talent” on 11 April 2009.
Boyle was introduced as the ouen kashu (応援歌手/ “cheering singer”) by the MCs and appeared on the stage of NHK Hall escorted by Takuya Kimura (木村拓也), and sang “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables.
The section managed to secure over 40% of viewers for the second year in a row but the rate was down 1.3 percentage points from last year.
