“asianbeat” featuring pop culture from Fukuoka
A website featuring pop culture of Japan and other parts of Asia run by the Fukuoka prefectural government is growing popular as it goes multilingual and expands its scope.
“asianbeat” is a new platform for the youth of Asia where pop culture including pop music, anime, manga, games, fashion, cuisine, art and theater are broadcast through a multilingual Web site and a variety of events. It is designed to facilitate the development of new cultures originating from Japan and Asia, where the shared values and sensitivities of the young are exemplified.
The site is currently available in Japanese, English, simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, Korean, and Thai language. It is a rarely seen attempt by a Japanese local government and has logged access from at least 150 countries.
In 2009, access climbed sharply after a Thai language section was added.
