Bishojo Zukan

Bishojo Zukan (美少女図鑑）, a free paper started in Niigata(新潟）in 2002, have exploded in popularity recently.
It gathers beautiful Japanese girls of local areas. By the end of March 2010, all 46 prefectures outside of Tokyo are expected to have their own Bishojo Zukan.

Bishojo is a Japanese term used to refer to young and pretty girls, usually below university age.

Models are selected through auditions of local teenagers and women in their 20s. The prefectural editions also use local photographers and stylists.Photos focus on local outdoor spots, cafes and other casual places.

The free papers resemble fashion magazines, but with fewer ads. Some editions even have been traded on Internet auction sites.
