Live-action movie “Maria-sama ga Miteru” to star Miki Honoka and Haru

Maria-sama ga Miteru

“Maria-sama ga Miteru (マリア様がみてる/ lit. Maria Watches Over Us)” , often shortened to Marimite (マリみて),is a successful series of light novels written by Oyuki Konno (今野緒雪). Started in 1998 and still ongoing, the novels have spawned a manga adaptation and multiple seasons of a television anime.

Miki Honoka(未来穂香), an exclusive model for teen fashion magazine Love Berry, will be co-starring with actress, pop singer, and Seventeen magazine model Haru (波瑠) in an upcoming live-action film adaptation of “Maria-sama ga Miteru.

A common theme throughout the series revolves around the lives and close relationships of the school’s student council known as the Yamayuri Council. “Maria-sama ga Miteru” is considered representative of yuri novels.

The series focuses on a group of teenage girls attending Lillian Catholic school for girls in Tokyo.
As one of the school’s traditions, upperclassmen pass on their rosaries to younger students, forming a sisterly bond in which the older one promises guidance to the younger one. Haru plays the part of Sachiko Ogasawara, one of the most admired girls at the academy, while Miki plays a young girl named Yumi Fukuzawa who receives Sachiko’s rosary.

The movie, which starts shooting in May, is expected to open fall 2010.
