Due to the success of the “Sazae-san” drama special on Nov.15 2009, Fuji TV is working on a second one to air this summer. Last year’s special starring Mizuki Alisa (観月ありさ) was so successful that they decided to do another episode with her this year.
Sazae-san is a Japanese Manga created by Machiko Hasegawa.
The manga was first published in Hasegawa’s local paper, the Fukunichi Shimbun on April 22, 1946. When the Asahi Shimbun wished to have Hasegawa draw the comic strip for their paper, she moved to Tokyo in 1949 with the explanation that the main characters had moved from Kyushu to Tokyo as well.
That was the fourth time that the long-running “Sazae-san” anime series was adapted into live-action. It was previously made into a drama series by TBS in 1965-1967, then by Fuji TV in 1981-1985 and 1992-1996.
Cast members returning from the first special include Michitaka Tsutsui (筒井 道隆),Tsurutaro Kataoka (片岡 鶴太郎), and Keiko Takeshita (竹下 景子). This episode will introduce the Isasaka family, portrayed by playwright Mitani Koki(三谷幸喜), Keiko Toda (戸田恵子), and Kana Kurashina (倉科カナ).
