imagesCAFCQ0NMimages  Today April 29th is a public ho;iday called “Showa Day”(/昭和の日, or “Showa no hi”), which originally was “The Emperor’s Birthday ” of Emperor Showa (裕仁,or Hirohito, 1901-1989, reign 1926-1989), the father of our current emperor.  And every year this is the beginning of  the consecutive public holidays from the of April to the beginning of May called the “Golden Week”, when almost all the tourists’ destinations, roads, and public transportation become the busiest  and  the most vibrant in the year.0611tokyo041120100430k0000m010025000p_size5

The GW  is April 29th- May 5th (“Kodomo no hi , “the Children’s Day ), and this year it will be a seven-day continuous holidays which may increase tourists to visit popular spots as it is relatvely easier to take a longer vacation than GW in ordinary years  due to the weekend timing in the GW.
