Anime characters’ song debuts at the top of Oricon Single Hit Chart for the first time in history !~ “K-ON” ‘s girl characters

  ” HO-KAGO TEA TIME”(/放課後ティータイム, tea time after school), an all- girl band that consists of  five “imaginary”  “anime”  high school girls who are characters in a popular anime work “K-ON !!”(/けいおん！！ , light music)  debuted at the top of  Oricon  single  hit chart dated this May 10th with the opening theme song of that anime work , “GO GO! MANIAC”  released on this April 28th accompanied by its ending theme song “Listen!! ” that was released at the same time taking second place at the same daily chart.

  Female singer(s)  hitting the first and the second places of  Oricon hit chart at the same time is just for the first time in 26 years and 6 months of  ” 瞳はダイヤモンド/蒼いフォトグラフ(Hitomi wa Diamond, Diamond Eyes//Aoi photograph, Pale Blue Photograph)”  and  ” ガラスの林檎/SWEET MEMORIES （Garasu no Ringo, glass apples//SWEET MEMORIES)”  of  Seiko Matsuda(/松田聖子) in 1983.  Seiko Matsuda’s record was preceded  only by  Keiko  Fuji(/藤圭子)　with “圭子の夢は夜ひらく（Keiko no Yume wa Yoru Hiraku, Keiko’s dreams come true at  night）” and “女のブルース（Onna no Blues,  a woman’s blues）” in 1970 since the start of  Oricon history.

Actually, ten  songs, such as  theme songs and image songs of  “K-ON”  have ranked in the top 10 of Oricon hit chart  and  its album “Ho-Kago Tea Time” debuted at the top for the first time in history as anime characters’ record overwhelming  Michael Jackson’s greatest hits album “KING OF POP~ JAPAN EDITION ” in July 2007. And this time at the  single chart,  the work or “the girls” established the historic record as  anime characters  for the first time since the start of Oricon charts in 1968.  

“K-ON”  itself  is also a very popular anime work whose first season aired from April to June 2009 and  currently the second season airs 1:25 am- 1:55 am on Tuesdays ( early morning on Wednesdays) at TBS and other affliated TV stations (the time and days are diverse respectively).  http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/k-on/ 

 The story is about a daily school life of  high school girls who are on a middle-of-the-road club of school. The  main characters, Yui Hirasawa(/平沢　唯), Mio Akiyama(/秋山　澪), Ritsu Tainaka(/田井中　律), Tsumugi Kotobuki(/琴吹　紬), Azusa Nakano(/中野　梓)　are  the five members of  the girls’ band, HO-KAGO  TEA TIME.
