BAD BOYS Motorcycle Gang Manga Gets Live-Action Film
Hiroshi Tanaka’s (田中宏) manga series “BADBOYS” is getting a live-action film adaptation, scheduled for release at the start of 2011.The movie is being directed by Takashi Kubota (窪田崇), whose works include “Yesterdays” and “Humming Life.”
The original “BADBOYS” manga was serialized from 1988 to 1996. Set in Hiroshima, the adolescent story follows a boy from a wealthy family who rebels and becomes a delinquent in a biker gang.
The story follows Tsukasa, a naive son who rebels against his rich parents by joining a motorcycle gang called the Paradise Butterflies. Tsukasa and his friends (Yōji, Hisao, and Eiji) try to be the most powerful gang on the streets of Hiroshima.
The manga, which ended at 22 collected volumes, already inspired five animated episodes between 1993 and 1998.
Toei Animation and directors Osamu Sekita (Cross Game, Ichigo 100%) and Takeshi Yamaguchi (Happy Lesson, Slayers Next) adapted the manga into a five-part original video anime series from 1993 to 1998.
Filming for the movie begins in mid-June.
