D-BOYS’ Araki co-stars with AKB48’s Kikuchi, Nakagawa in “X Game” film
D-BOYS member Hirofumi Araki (荒木宏文) will star in a new movie with AKB48 members Ayaka Kikuchi (菊地あやか) and Haruka Nakagawa (仲川遥香). The film is titled “X Game” (read as “Batsu Game”) and is based on the suspense novel of the same name by writer Yusuke Yamada(山田悠介).
D-BOYS is a young male actors group under the management of Watanabe Entertainment. The D in the group’s name stands for “Drama” (acting work), “Dream”, “Debut”, “Discovery” and “Development” (growth and advancement).
Although the D-BOYS are promoted as a group and members occasionally work together on the same projects, each actor develops his career independently from his fellow members in their own television, cinema and theatre projects. New D-BOYS members are regularly selected through public audition events with interactive participation of fan club members.
“X Game” book has sold more than half a million copies so far. In the story, a college student named Hideaki (played by Araki) attends a class reunion, and soon strange events begin happening around him, including a teacher’s suicide and the discovery of a body of a missing classmate. It all seems to trace back to a former classmate who was bullied and is now seeking revenge.
Kikuchi will play the part of Hideaki’s girlfriend Rikako, while Nakagawa has been cast as Hideaki’s first love from his elementary school days. Other cast members include Shingo Tsurumi (鶴見辰吾) and Kazuyuki Aijima (相島一之).
“X Game” is being directed by Yohei Fukuda. Theatrical release is planned for fall 2010.
