AKB48, one of the most popular young female idol groups at the moment, joined and performed at “Anime Expo 2010” in Los Angeles US on this Jul.1st .
This “Anime Expo 2010” http://www.anime-expo.org/ (Jul.1st-4th) is one of the biggest conventions of such subculture as anime and manga in North America. This time AKB48 was invited to the event as its “Special Dream Ambassadors”(honorary ambassadors) ,being expected to work as a helpful bridge of Japanese culture between Japan and US and other countries, the event’s management say.
The selected team of 16 of AKB members sang 15 songs, some of which were done in English, in the conventional center, the venue of the expo. This was their 5th concert outside of Japan. Each member introduced themselves in English and aroused a big zealous reaction of the audience. Every visitor was excited and happy, yet there were some 3,000 audiences and the capacity of the facility was of 7,000. The visitors’ number couldn’t reach even that of half of full house, which should have been impossible at their concert in Japan nowadays, kind of shocked the members . However, the members say, “I’m frustrated and we are so eager to make a full house here eventually.” “Our concentration was not good enough. We have so much room to make efforts yet.” “The language barrier is grave. We should improve our linguastic skills first.” ” I remember the early days of our concerts when we had only a few visitors. We would like to become idols who you can go to see even aboad.” The members are energetic drive in the future overcoming the shock.
The national top idol group now has a new goal to achieve in the broad international market of showbiz.
