Haneda Airport, which had functioned as the hub international airport in Japan located in Ohta ward Tokyo http://www.tokyo-airport-bldg.co.jp/en/ , has been mainly used as a domestic airport  except  for some comparatively short distance international flights since Narita International Airport in Chiba Pref. was opened as the primary international airport in Kanto Area (East Japan), especially the metropolitan area in 1978.

Due to the enhancement of  the function with the new runway, the total average number of flights ,which iscurrently  about  300 thousand times, is expected to increase up about  to 447 thousand times per year by the end of  the year 2013.

the New International Terminal contains convenient and interesting facilities such as “Edo Komichi” (/江戸小路,  Edo alley) which is a shopping arcade featuring old traditional Japanese buildings, streets, and stores selling traditional Japanese souvenirs and others. Those facilities are expected to attract foreign passengers as well.

Some new railroads’ lines gave been set up for better connections between the airport and cities in the metropolitan areas for more conveniences, and the Japan government advantageous carrying out promoting and enhancing the functions and the services of the airport including that one.

On this 25th,  the government concluded Open Skies Pact with US, which is to ease the restrictions over international flights so far. http://www.joc.com/air-expedited/us-japan-sign-open-skies-pact

Mabuchi, the Minister of land, infrastructure, transportation, and tourism of Japan Government and US ambassador Ruth signing the pact

Japan has signed  some open skies pacts with several countries but that one with US is the very first total open skies pact for Japan ,especially including flights in the metropolitan airports of  Haneda and Narita. With that pact including ATIs, we can expect airfares to lower, which will invigorate both inbound and outbound tourism. The government also intend to conclude such pacts of total liberation for civilian airlines to sign agreements with each other freely, with at lease 9 Asian countries all of which have already concluded partial pacts  of the kind.

With all those new efforts and amenities, we hope to improve our tourism dramatically.hanedaairport
