Somarta was launched in 2007 by former Issey Miyake staffer Tamae Hirokawa, well known for her conceptual approach into new body clothing possibilities. In her 2007A/W collection Hirokawa showcased lace bodysuits covered in brilliant Swarovski crystal studs, which were paraded in front of a screen showing images of swirling galaxies and a marching army of metallic flowers that conjured up a revolutionary, almost apocalyptic mood.
