The Exhibition of Yakumo Koizumi(Lafcadio Hearn) being held at Kanagawa Museum Of Modern Literature
A special exhibition of Yakumo Koizumi (/小泉八雲, or Lafcadio Hearn) , a writer and well-known as the author of “Kwaidan”(Ghost Stories ), is now being held at Kanawaga Museum Of Modern Litarature in Kanagawa Pref. Oct.2-Nov.14. http://www.kanabun.or.jp/te0164.html
This event is being held commemorating the 160th anniversary of his birth and 120th anniversary of his immigration to Japan. Hearn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lafcadio_Hearn) was a mixed-blood between an Irish father and a Greek mother. He had worked as a journalist and as a globetrotter, came to Japan in 1890 and workd as a teacher, researching Japanese literature. Then he got married to a Japanese woman and got cirizenship of Japan. He had interest in traditional Japanese literature and folklores, and wrote books about them. He received a medal from the Japan government upon passing , having contributed to activities of introducing Japanese culture to the international community.
Today, he is thought to be one of the most influential Japanologist and his most famous work “Kwaidan” has been filmed and TV dramas so many times.
