#25 Japan Gold Disc Award : Arashi earns Artist of the Year
25th Japan Gold Disc Awards, a major music awards held annually in Japan also released as a CD,were presented on Wednesday in Tokyo.As the awards are based on actual sales, boy band Arashi was naturally named Artist of the Year, for the second year in a row. Although they received an unprecedented 10 awards last year, this time they managed to win a total of 6.
Arashi sold approximately 1.46 million albums and 3.46 million singles in 2010. However, AKB48 still had the top selling single of the year.
The all-women pop idol group AKB48 and the five-man pop idol group Arashi took every slot in the top 10 bestselling singles software ranking list of 2010, entertainment information provider Oricon Co said. AKB48 had four titles in the top 10, including the CD ‘‘Beginner’’ which came top with 950,000 copies sold, while Arashi took the remaining six places.
