The 43rd Miss Nippon Contest was held on January 26 Tokyo. A total of 3,169 entrants were narrowed down to 12 women for the final round, and the grand prize was awarded to 20-year-old Marie Yanaka, a student at Keio University who is said to have scored a perfect 990 points on the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) certification test.

* Miss Nature: Kaori Harada (22)
* Sponichi Special Prize (publicly voted): Rina Kuribayashi
