Yubara Onsen-part 1
Yubara Onsen is a hot spring resort in Maniwa City, the northern Okayama Prefecture. An outdoor bath called ‘Sunayu’ has been regarded as the best outdoor bath in the western Japan. It is one of the three famous hot spring resorts called ‘Mimasaka Sanyu’ including ‘Yunogo Onsen’ and ‘Okutsu Onsen’. It takes about 5 minutes from the Yubara IC on the Yonago highway. The quality of hot spring is simple alkaline. There are 15 source wells of hot spring which provide abundant 6,000 liter onsen water per second. All sauces are gushing out naturally. Temperature of original hot spring is 48.51 ℃.
A long-established inn ‘Aburaya’ is also here that was employed as one of the models for Japanese animation film ‘Spirited Away’ (千と千尋の神隠し). It is a 2001 Japanese animated fantasy-adventure film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli.
A hot spring resort is stretched along ‘Asahi-gawa River’ down the Yubara dam. There are three free parking lots and municipal parking on the river shore.
Onsen-gai or hot spring resort has a public outdoor bath, hot spring facilities for day travelers, chartered onsens, and also restaurants, shooting galleries, a tap museum, glass ateliers, souvenir shops, onsen museum, and so on.
The name ‘Yubara’ is derived from the condition that almost all of the upper and middle reaches of the riverbed gush out hot spring. Only a part of hot spring is used for onsen facilities and rest of them is simply run away.
Although, the hot spring resort is basically suitable for hot spring cure, refreshment, and medical treatment, because of its good location and its calm tasteful atmosphere is also taken as a pleasure resort.
