All graduates sung final school song in tears
Graduation ceremony for Ryori Elementary School is performed in a classroom at Ryori Junior High School.
Ryori Elementary School in Ofunato City was flooded and greatly damaged by the tsunami on March 11. The elementary school has no place to perform the graduation ceremony, so that the ceremony is performed on March 18 at a small class room at Ryori Junior High School instead.
One of the homeroom teachers addressed the students in tear. ‘Let’s sing a song vigorously! All smiles of you are energy for victims who are trying to recover from the disaster.’ Students sung a final school song in tear without any accompaniment on the piano. Some graduates lost their parents or own houses. The small class room for the ceremony is too small for accompanying families and the ceremony is simplified with just an address given by the principal and singing a school song.
The principal, Haruki Suzuki sent off graduates in saying ‘we are very sorry to send you like this. Please have a hope and make you cheerful.’
The building of elementary school was flooded over the first floor and its gymnasium is still scattered with broken glasses.
