Members of All Hands Volunteers started helping people in Ofunato city on April 12. The volunteer group based in the USA had participated in rescue operation in the stricken areas in various parts of the world. They have participated in reconstruction work in stricken areas caused by the 2004 earthquake off the west coast of Northern Sumatra and the giant tsunami in the Indian Ocean and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
Six members, consisting of American and Canadian, started helping citizens in the city and additional two people going to participate within a week. They are planning to work here for three months. The members worked at a store located in the center of the town which first floor was buried under the rubbles and mud, for their first day of volunteer activity.
Mr. Mark Young (50), the representative, talked to the reporters, ‘We have various requisitions from citizens. We are trying to hear and work for them on flexible schedule.
