Finally, electricity is provided to last two private houses in Sanriku Town
Tohoku Electric Power Co. finally could reconstruct and provide electricity to last two private houses in Sanriku town, Ofunato on May 8. Ms. Fusako Kariya (58), one of the residents of two houses hugged together with neighbors and shed tears for joy. ‘I really understand how electricity is important for us. I will be able to use my washing machine from now on.’ Her house is located at the just beside of Okirai Fishing Port. Although, her house was cracked and leaned to one side, it is at rather high ground on the way from the port, and left from the tsunami. Her refrigerator and TV had been no use. She had to wash clothes in cold water by bare hand. She washed her clothes such as sweat suit by her washing machine soon after the electricity came arrive.
