An astronaut encouraged children in Ofunato

An astronaut, Mr. Koichi Wakata visited and gave a lecture.
An astronaut, Mr. Koichi Wakata (47), gave a lecture at the Ofunato Junior High School in Iwate prefecture on May 14. ‘I had taken photos of various parts of beautiful Japan, including Ofunato city, while traveling through space. Although, I turned my eyes from the terrible sight caused by the disaster, your cheerful faces rather encourage me.’ He talked to about 250 children who attended the lecture. The astronaut wished strongly visiting stricken towns and encourages children there. His wish is finally come true.
Students form three schools in Ofunato town, Ofunato Junior High School, Ofunato Primary School, and North Ofunato Primary School, participated to the lecture. One 6th grade student in North Ofunato Primary School was scarified by the tsunami.
Students gave shouts of joy for beautiful images of our planet taken from the space while Mr. Wakata showing images and photos of living conditions and experiments in ISS (International Space Station) in the lecture.
He also visited shelters and encourage refugees still living there.
