-Great East Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Disaster-

Popular Japanese pop dance group encouraged school children in the disaster stricken town.

The project named ‘Dream 21 Extracurricular lecture-hope project’ sponsored by the 21st century Club and backed by Yomiuri Shimbun co. was performed at Takonoura Elementary School in Akasaki town, Ofunato on May 30. Among 14 members of Japanese pop dance groups ‘EXILE’, Mr. USA (34) and Mr. TETSUYA (30) were acted as visiting instructors for dancing.

Exile is a 14-member all-male Japanese pop dance group. On artwork and promotional material, the band name is typeset in all capitals as “EXILE”. The leader of the group is Hiro, who debuted as a member of Zoo under For Life Music, but Exile has released their singles and albums under Avex Group’s label Rhythm Zone. Hiro and Avex’s president Max Matsuura came from the same high school. In total, they have sold over 17 million records just in Japan.

Two of them demonstrated one of their big hits ‘Choo Choo Train’ to 193 children in the school. Some school children from Akasaki Elementary School have attended temporally at the same school, which was greatly damaged from the tsunami disaster.

All attendants tried hard to do quick turns and take poses in dancing to their music. ‘I felt as if I were in a dream. I really enjoyed dancing with my favorite group “EXILE”’. A 4th grade pupil of the school, Ms. Kyoko Miura (9) looked happy.
