“Kura-house” old-people’s home in Sakari town

About 400 audiences, including staff of the home, enjoyed a small concert performed by Mr. Masahi Sada on June 9. One of the most popular singer-songwriter in Japan visited an old-people’s home ‘Kura-house Ofunato’ in Sakari town for encouragement of old victims. He performed five songs among his big hits with good narration, such as ‘kanpaku sengen or make a declaration of the husband is the boss’ and ‘cosmos’. Some audiences were moved to tears by his beautiful soprano accompanied with music played on his guitar while performing ‘cosmos’. His unique talks also made old victims feel at ease. ‘I really enjoyed his talks. I could forget passing of difficult time a bit.’ Ms. Maki Kato, a nurse of the house, was looked carrying away by his performance.

Masashi Sada (born April 10, 1952) is a Japanese singer, lyricist, composer, novelist, actor, and a film producer.

Sada formed the folk duo Grape with Masami Yoshida in 1972, and made debut as a recording artist a year after. The pair rose to fame owing to a hit of a song “Shourou Nagashi” (精霊流し) composed by Sada, which peaked at the number-two on the Japanese Oricon chart in 1974. They broke up in 1976, after producing some hit singles including “En-kiri Dera” (縁切寺) and “Muen Zaka” (無縁坂) subsequently.

Sada released the first solo album entitled Kikyorai shortly after the Grape’s dissolution. Following the commercial success of the number-one hit single “Amayadori” (雨やどり, Shelter from the rain) in 1977, he enjoyed the recording career as one of the most popular Japanese male artists during the late 1970s and the first half of 1980s.

Throughout his career as a musician, Sada released over 35 solo albums and 70 singles, and multiple live albums or compilations. Since the release of Shourou Nagashi published in 2001, Sada has also worked as a novelist.

Mr. Sada has been Ofunato once in 7 years ago for his performance at the memorial event of local enterprise. ‘I am at a loss for word when I see stricken condition of your town. I would like to back you up in a long period. I will come back here again.’ He promised to old victims in the house. People from NPO ‘Ganbaranbatai or we’ll stick it out’ in Ofunato distributed bowls of noodle soup to old victims.

Mr. Sada also dropped in neighboring city, Rikuzen-takata on this day.
