Tanabata Festival illuminations in Osaka river

The Prayer Stars which were used in the ceremony is reused, powered by low electricity consumption and long life LEDs.On July 7, the Tanabata (七夕) festival day, the Legend of Osaka Amanogawa 2011 was held, and 50,000 blue lights floated on the Ohkawa River.

Tanabata is a Japanese star festival, celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi ,represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively. According to legend, the Amanogawa (Milky Way) separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of July.

The legend has it that you will be blessed with good marriage if you make a wish there, something which attracts a great many courting couples.

The light is called “inori-boshi (prayer star)” and it is a blue LED in a plastic capsule with a battery. After 7 pm, local children released the stars from boats.
