A last baseball team form the tsunami stricken areas was defeated at the quarterfinals

A tough baseball team from Ofunato Senior High School
Ofunato Senior High School, only one baseball team among 8 quarterfinalists from tsunami stricken seaside areas, could not win against East Hanamaki Senior High School on July 21. The High School from the stricken area matched against one of the strongest teams at the Iwate Prefectural Preliminary Baseball Games for the 93rd National High School Baseball Championship.
A go-ahead runner of East Hanamaki Senior High homed in at the 5th round and got additional scores to shake off its tough competitor. Although, it was 1-1 even by the 5th round, 4th batter Sugita made a timely hit after getting consecutive two walks. A cleanup trio of East Hanamaki Senior High played an active role with getting 5 points. Mr. Kohara, the pitcher, allowed giving 8 hits to Ofunato Senior High, but tightened his control over important points. While two runners of Ofunato Senior High occupied on the first and second bases, he made a diving catch at a bunt fly in front of him in the 4th round to cut out the pinch.
Although, Suzuki from Ofunato Senior High scored the first run by a timely hit in front of the left fielder at the 3rd round while they had a runner on the 3rd base, a starting pitcher Ueno gave scores in the middle of the game. A relief pitcher Oikawa also allowed giving additional points and could not take the lead in the game.
