Osaka’s popular polar bear “newlywed couple” was treated to a special gift — four icicles with apples, a favorite treat, frozen inside — on Saturday, which fell on the hottest day of the year in traditional calendars.
Six-year-old Gogo and his 19-year-old “wife” Baffin thoroughly enjoyed the gift from their keepers at Tennoji Zoo, throwing the icicles in the water and licking them.
Russian-born Gogo and Swedish-born Baffin “tied the knot” when the latter was transferred to the Osaka zoo from a zoo in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, on March 2 as part of a polar bear breeding program.
