Boarding experience on a hot-air balloon is held by ‘Reconstruction Committee by Balloon Flight’ at a flood plain along the Sakari-gawa River Ohfunato City on August 28.

334 citizens including parents and their children took board on colorful balloons and saw their stricken hometown from 20 meters above the ground.

Saku City, Nagano Prefecture (a sister city of Ohfunato City) and The Administrative Structure of Hot-air Balloon (NPO) projected the event and 6 balloons in Japan were gathered at the sight.

Attendants were divided into groups of 5 or 6 people and each group went up 20 meters above the ground by the balloon. They enjoyed 360 degrees view from the observatory of the balloon while 5 minutes flight.

Although, balloons are moored with ropes during flight for security measure, children gave shouts of joy.

‘I was bit scared, but could enjoy seeing beautiful view.’ Miss Saika Jindai (10), a student from North-Ohfunato Elementary School, looked really satisfied. ‘It was a good opportunity to take boarding. I appreciate kind supports from all over Japan.’ Her mother Kumi (47) added. Their home was damaged by the tsunami and now they are living in a temporary house.
