Members of the Shochiku Kageki Dan (松竹歌劇団)troupe STAS perform in front of the Kaminarimon Gate on Oct.12.

Shochiku Kageki Dan or SKD was begun in 1928 as one of many attempts to imitate the Takarazuka Revue (宝塚歌劇団), and the only one of that era to achieve much success. There was a corresponding group in Osaka, called the Osaka Shouchiku Kagekidan or OSK.

Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) is the outer of two large entrance gates that ultimately leads to the Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo.

The gate, with its lantern and statues, is popular with tourists.
