Japanese hip-hop dance
Japanese hip-hop dance is said to have begun when Hiroshi Fujiwara (藤原ヒロシ)returned to Japan and started playing hip hop records in the early 1980s.Fujiwara is known as the godfather of Harajuku culture and is a globally influential streetwear designer, including being the pioneer for Nike’s “HTM” line, and the “Fenom” line for Levis.
Eri Yamada (山田恵理), student of Vantan Design Institute, loves hip-hop, and has been dancing for 6 years.
This year, Japanese education guidelines require all seventh- and eighth-grade students to take hip-hop dance classes as part of their physical education curriculum.
