‘Astro Boy’ vs ‘Rei Ayanami’- Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum to host exhibit on Neon Genesis Evangelion
The Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum (手塚治虫記念館)in Takarazuka, Hyogo Prefecture, will host an exhibition on the popular “Neon Genesis Evangelion” comic series from June 29.

At the show through Oct. 22, visitors to the museum, which displays original sketches of “Astro Boy” and other items, will be able to see items such as storyboards from Evangelion’s 1995 debut on television, replicas of costumes and a life-size figure of the popular character Rei Ayanami.

The museum in the western Japan city displays many items showing the roots of the works of the late Osamu Tezuka. Among them is a statue of Astro Boy about 1.3 meters tall.

“Astro Boy struggled with the fact that he was different from a human,” said Takeshi Maekawa, director of the museum, referring to the humanoid status of the Evangelion robots.
Museum admission is set at 700 yen for adults and the facility is closed on Wednesdays except for the summer vacation period.
