Rino Sashihara regaining the No.1 postion at the AKB48 general election
The 7th “general Election of AKB48” was held at “Fukuoka Yafuoku! Dome ” in Fukuoka City , Fukuoka pref. on the Jun.6th. (http://www.akb48.co.jp/)
Totally 272 members of AKB48 and its sister groups(SKE48,NMB48,HKT48 and some members from JKT48,SNH48,NGT48, and Nogizaka46) ran for the election and the Selected Members for the new single CD(1st-16th), the Under Girls(17th-32nd), the Next Girls(33rd-48th),the Future Girls(49th-64th),the Upcoming Girls(65th-80th) were announed out of 272 candidate members of the groups. Rhie election event now draws attention of not only fans of the groups but also mass nationwide and the course was broadcast live at CXTV. Rino Sashihara, a memeber of Team H of HKT48 won the No.1 for the first time in two years and regained the “queen’s throne” of the event. Yuki Kashiwagi, a member of Team B of AKB48 rated the second, and Mayu Watanabe, a member of Team B of AKB48 who was the No.1 winner of the event last year got the third and could not get the first position in a row.

“World Cosplay Summit 2014” in Nagoya
“World Cosplay Summit 2014” is hosted by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other bodies Jul.26-Aug.3 in Nagoya. (http://www.worldcosplaysummit.jp/en/)
This WCS is the 12nd and this time representatives join the event from 22 countries or regions. The event includes several programs such as a coaplay parade, cosplay championship, visitations of the representatives to city offices and MFA, anime-song festival, and so forth. Six representatves of the event from China, Mexico, and Finland officially visited Seiji Kihara, the vice-minister at MOFA in Tokyo giving presentations over attaractions of cosplay. Kihawa made a speech saying, pop culture has power to bind countries together and expect the representatives to support strengthening rapport with Japan. The Chinese representative said cosplay had a role to enhance cultural exchange.
Goeido being promoted to the ozeki rank
Goeido, a sekiwake-rank sumo wrestler, was promoted to the ozeki(one step higher rank from sekiwake and the second highest only to the yokozuna) by the Japan Sumo Association with the unanimous decision of its members of the directors of board on Jul.30th. He will be an ozeki- wrestler from the next Grand Sumo sutumn tournament of Sep.14-28 at Ryogoku Kokugikan(National Sport Stadium) in Tokyo.
Goeido(Gotaro Sawai) was the first ozeki after Kakuryu’s promotion,who is currently a yokozuna-wrestler, in spring 2012 and the very first one in three years as a Japanese-born wrestler following Kisenosato in 2011. Goeido energetically keeps his postition as a sekiwake for 12 consecutive tournaments since 2007, which is the record-long after Showa era, after having started his career as a sumo wrestker in 2005. This year, he defeated two yokozuna, Hakuho and Kakuryu and the total score 12winning to 3 losses, which is quite excellent. He also says he would like to realize his Yamato Damashii(/the Japanese Spirit) in his new coming career. Currently all the three yokozuna-wrestkers are from Mongolia and a lot of people may expect him to regain a glory of the Japanese national sport.
Nagoya Castle Honmaru palace’s first stage of reconstruction completed
The first stage of the reconstruction project of Nagoya Castle “Honmaru palace”(/本丸御殿, honmaru-goten, the main palace) being completed , opened to public on the 29th. (http://www.nagoyajo.city.nagoya.jp/13_english/) and (http://www.hommaru-palace.city.nagoya.jp/)
The castle was originally built in 1615 as the residence and palace of the feudal lords of the Owari Tokugawa family which was the top lineage of the three highest relative family-clans of the Tokugawa shogun family. The Honmaru palace was actually the residence for the lords and later on it came to be used exclusively for the guest house for shoguns when they visited the castle.
The palace’s pre-openning show was hosted to the press and a grand opening ceremony was hosted by the city with Nagoya Mayor, Takashi Kawamura, who confidently made a remark where he told the press that this reconstruction was quite accurate and faithful according to the original design’s blueprint, Shoichiro Toyota, honorary chairperson of Toyota, and other about 250 guests. Nagoya Omotenashi Busho-tai (/名古屋おもてなし武将隊, Nagoya hospitality warlords group), which is a dance performer’s group of six whose members wear special costumes of warlords in warring state age joined and conducted a performance show there. The six warlords of Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Ieyasu Tokugawa, Toshiie Maeda, Kiyomasa Kato, and Keiji, whose parts are performed by the Busho-tai members were all from Nagoya, closer areas,or related to those areas and still popular in those areas or even nationwide as historical figures. Nagoya Castle Park is open 9:00am – 16:30pm(entrance to the Keep or Honmaru palace is up to 16:00pm) but 9:00am – 18:30pm(entrance up to 17:00pm) between May 29th – Sep. 1st in 2013. The addmission fee is ¥500 for an adult and ¥100 for an elderly citizen of Nagoya City, and free of charge for a junior high school student and younger, and discounts are available for certain types of a group.
Nagoya planetarium recognized as world’s biggest
The city of Nagoya announced that the planetarium at Nagoya City Science Museum has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest.
After being renovated at a cost of some 2.5 billion yen, the new planetarium opened in March with a diameter of 35 meters. It breaks the previous record held by Ehime Prefectural Science Museum by 5 meters. Read the rest of this entry »
