Hatsune Miku is collaborating with Sanrio’s Hello Kitty for a Snow Miku line of characters goods that will only be available in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

The collaboration ties into the Snow Miku promotion that Crypton Future Media has created as part of this year’s festival.

‘Manyo-no-yu’ in New Chitose Airport

‘Manyo-no-yu’ in New Chitose Airport was considered as one of the main facilities in the airport building when the renovation was planned. It was expected to promote accessibility and attractiveness of the airport.

The function of the New Chitose Airport is expected to dramatically heighten by the renewal work of the terminal buildings and renovation of both facilities for domestic and international airlines. It also helps to increase number of arrivals and hours of staying at the airport. As the entrance to Hokkaido, the airport building must provide much refined hospitality service to visitors and variety of menus to attract them while staying.

The purpose of ‘Manyo-no-yu’ in New Chitose Airport is providing valuable period at the airport as an orthodox relaxation facility with using first natural Onsen water at the airport and as one of the main facilities not only for air travelers but also for local visitors.

Concept of ‘Manyo-no-yu’ at the New Chitose Airport

“Giving most high grade relaxation and refreshment to travelers at the beginning and final stages of the journey”

Air travelers will be able to set more flexible itinerary in staying one night before their flights at the airport or taking naps until next morning when they arrive midnight. On the other hand, local citizens can enjoy bathing and relaxation at the unusual space of ‘Airport Onsen Resort’ whenever they like.

Amenity of ‘Manyo-no-yu’

Ganban’yoku (岩盤浴) is Japanese term for a popular form of hot stone spa. It is said to have originated in Thailand. Body-sized stones, such as granite, are inserted into the floor and heated. Bathers lie clothed on the stones while their bodies gradually heat up.

Like low temperature saunas, ganban’yoku are commonly advertised to have a detoxification effect, improve the circulatory system and are good for the skin. A ganban’yoku room in a spa would typically be visited after the baths and would be in clothing-on area with mixed genders.

Many spa facilities have ganban’yoku rooms. Quality of natural Onsen water is weak alkali tender to your skin. Natural hot spring water in ‘Manyo-no-yu’ is suitable for various kinds of ailments, such as neuralgia, muscular sore, arthritis, frozen shoulder around the age of fifty, motion paralysis, joint stiff, bruise, contusion, hemorrhoids, digestive organs ailment, chronic dermatosis, convalescent, health promotion, sickly children, female chronic, cold syndrome, incised wound, burn and scald. It is especially good for recovering from physical fatigue caused by tight schedule on your journe

Maifan Stone (Chinese 麦饭石 or 麥飯石), also known as “bakuhanseki (Japanese 麦飯石),” is a special mineral rock used in Chinese medicine to treat various skin diseases. It is composed of minerals including but not limited to plagioclase feldspar, orthoclase, feldspar, hornblende, and biotite (all four mentioned before are silicate minerals). Maifan Stone contains plenty of micro-nutrient elements, such as calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, copper, and selenium, all essential to a healthy human body. As a Chinese medicine, it is especially useful in treating skin tumors and ulcers. In addition to that, many mineral water manufacturers in China dissolve a small amount of Maifan Stone during the preparation of their product, meant to enhance the micro-nutrient density in the water. In ordinary cooking, both rice and tea, while being washed, may be dipped with Maifan Stone to increase their effects on health.

Availability of ‘Manyo-no-yu’

‘Manyo-no-yu’ is available 23 hours between 10:00 in the morning and 9:00 in the next morning. You will make good use of your time when you arrive a little earlier than your boarding time in early morning or late at night. All facility is available even after the airport building is closed, such as rooms for guests stay overnight, easy chairs good for resting and taking nap and resting area exclusive use for ladies. Accessible to business lines with Wi-Fi（wireless fidelity） in the facility.

■ Adjustable your itinerary by staying at guestroom or relaxation room, such as coming one day before your departure, taking early or late flight.

‘Manyo-no-yu’ in New Chitose Airport

Where are you going for entertaining your family on weekends? Bathing in Onsen, seeing movies at theater, or spending in theme part? Local residents in Sapporo are something different from other areas. Recently, their local airport, the New Chitose Airport, was changed to an attractive facility for one day trippers without stay over night.

‘We expect over 900,000 local arrivals annually excluding air travelers for taking flights.’ Mr. Kunihiko Yamamoto, the president of Hokkaido Airport Co., expressed. The company runs the airport building and ranked as the second highest sales among other airport buildings in Japan. It has about 24,500 square meters of commercial zone, including Onsen, movie-theater, and theme park, eating and drinking sections and is known as one of the profitable airport facilities. JR high speed trains connect between the center of Sapporo and the airport in only 36 minutes. And it takes about one hour if you drive.

New Chitose Airport (新千歳空港,)

New Chitose Airport (新千歳空港,) (IATA: CTS, ICAO: RJCC), is an airport located 2.7 NM (5.0 km; 3.1 mi) south southeast of Chitose City and Tomakomai City, Hokkaido, Japan, serving the Sapporo metropolitan area. By land area, it is the largest airport in Hokkaidō.

The airport has a semicircular domestic terminal (similar in design to the terminals at DFW Airport) with eighteen gates, and a smaller international terminal with six gates.

As of 2005, New Chitose Airport was the third busiest airport in Japan (behind Narita and Haneda) and ranked #64 in the world in terms of passengers carried. The 894 km New Chitose – Tokyo Haneda route is the busiest air route in Japan, with 8.8 million passengers carried (out of 13.2 million seats available) in 2010.

An Onsen facility ‘Manyo-no-yu’ is newly opened at the 4th floor of the airport building for domestic air service, which is one of the well known Onsen chain facilities in Japan targets mainly for one day trippers.

Hot spring water is carried from Onsen source, located in Bunkyo district, Chitose City. Quality of hot spring is shown in the next chart.

A bathing facility within the airport building is rare but not new. ‘Fu-no-yu’ in Chubu Centrair International Airport is another example. However, Onsen water is not provided for ‘Fu-no-yu, so ‘Manyo-no-yu’ at New Chitse Airport is a brand new ‘Onsen’ with in the airport building.

Attractive places which have strong drawing power, such as railway stations and roadside stations, commonly have Onsen facilities. Why not build it in the airport building?

Onsen usually attracts not only for travelers taking flights but other visitors to the airport so ‘Manyo-no-yu’ runs 24 hours. Resting area and guest rooms for travelers are also provided within the Onsen facility. Passengers can stay at the airport when their flights were cancelled caused by heavy snowing and other causes.
