A well in a garden of Tokyo’s Meiji Shrine has drawn masses of visitors who believe it is a power spot where they can experience positive energy.

Meiji Shirine is the largest Shinto shrine in Tokyo, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his consort, Emperess Shoken, who passed away in 1912 & 1914 respectively. It was constructed just after the first world war.

The Kiyomasa’s well ( Kiyomasa no Ido) is said to have been dug by famous feudal warlord Kato Kiyomasa, whose family, according to the shrine, had a mansion in the area during the Edo period, although it is unknown if Kiyomasa lived there.

The site became famous after some television programs featured it with people claiming that their luck improved when they used pictures of the well as background screens on their cellphones.

Visitors must pay 500 yen to enter the garden and will need to obtain a numbered ticket to view the well.

Meiji Shrine, located in Harajuku,is the Shinto shrine that is dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken.
The Shrine is located in a forest that covers an area of 700,000 square-meters (about 175 acres). This area is covered by an evergreen forest that consists of 120,000 trees of 365 different species, which were donated by people from all parts of Japan when the shrine was established. The forest is visited by many people both as a spiritual home of the people and as a recreation and relaxation area in the center of Tokyo.

The term “street fashion” is used to describe fashion where the wearer customizes outfits by adopting a mixture of current and traditional trends. Such clothes are generally home-made with the use of material purchased at stores.

At present there are many styles of dress in Japan, created from a mix of both local and foreign labels. Some of these styles are extreme and avant-garde, similar to the haute couture seen on European catwalks. The rise and fall of many of these trends has been chronicled by Shoichi Aoki since 1997 in the fashion magazine FRUiTS, which is a notable magazine for the promotion of street fashion in Japan.

Gothic and Lolita （ゴシック&ロリータ）,also known as “Gosurori（ゴスロリ）”,is a term used by the Japanese to describe a sub-culture of teenagers who wear peculiar fashions.

Lolita fashion draws much of its inspiration from Rococo, Victorian-style and Edwardian fashion, and often aims to imitate the look of Victorian children or porcelain dolls. Gothic and Lolita style is usually a combination of black and white – often black with white lace – and is typically decorated with ribbons and lace trims. Skirts are knee length and may have a crinoline or petticoat to add volume.

As in mainstream Japanese fashion, over-knee socks or stockings are popular. White or black tights are also common. Boots, rocking horse shoes or child-like shoes such as Mary Janes complete the look. Frilly, ruffled or lace-trimmed Victorian blouses are also popular with Gothic Lolitas, and designs are usually modest, sometimes with long lace-capped sleeves and/or high-necked blouses.

In Japan, Gothic and Lolita style is mass-marketed. Although not widely worn, it is highly visible, particularly in the streets of Tokyo and Osaka. (wikipedia)

Harajuku (原宿） is a mecca for those who follow Gothic and Lolita style, and many pilgrims can be seen there.
