Auction – Life-size Gundam’s virtual pilot
Yahoo! Japan is currently holding an auction for someone to have his or her image projected from the cockpit section of the rebuilt life-size Gundam.
The auction, which opened on May 10 with a starting bid of 1 yen (US$0.01), currently has a bid of 509,000 yen (about US$6,372). The bid will end at 11:59 p.m. on May 16 in Japan. Read the rest of this entry »
Tetsuya Komuro performing at Life-size Gundam
The ceremony began at Tokyo’s Odaiba with Tohru Furuya (古谷徹), the voice actor of the first Gundam anime’s lead Amuro Ray, showcasing the life-size statue of the original RX-78-2 Gundam.
He noted the 18-meter-tall (about 59-feet-tall) Gundam was customized for Amuro with his personal insignia and magnetic coating on the joints.
Tetsuya Komuro (小室 哲哉 ), a keyboardist, guitarist, singer, songwriter, and music producer, is recognized as being the most successful producer in Japanese music history. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in pop throughout the 1990s. Read the rest of this entry »

Time-lapse video shows life-size Gundam in motion
The statue of life-size Gundam is being rebuilt at Diver City Tokyo, a complex under construction on the island by Mitsui Fudosan and Fuji TV.
The grand opening is slated for April 19, the same day that the miniature theme park called Gundam Front Tokyo at Diver City Tokyo opens. The life-size statue first stood at Odaiba in July of 2009 and attracted 4.15 million visitors before it closed the following month. Read the rest of this entry »
Madame Tussauds waxworks on display in Odaiba
A three-month waxwork exhibition organized by London’s Madame Tussauds wax museum opened in Odaiba, featuring life-sized figures of celebrities including Hollywood stars.

The “Madam Tussauds Tokyo” exhibition at Decks Tokyo Beach commercial complex in the Odaiba waterfront area comprises around 20 waxworks that can be touched freely.

The waxworks on display include those of Audrey Hepburn, Michael Jackson and Johnny Depp, as well as Japanese figures such as musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, violinist Taro Hakase, animation character Astro Boy and Yuko Oshima from pop idol group AKB48.

From 15 to 20 artisans are involved in carving, casting, coloring and grafting hair by hand and it takes about four months to complete a single figure.
